Have you ever cringed thinking about the amount of perfectly good food that restaurants and other food businesses dump into the trash each day? Have you ever wondered if there’s a way to rescue that food before it ends up in a landfill?
Enter Too Good To Go, an innovative app that allows users to reserve “Surprise Bags” of food from local restaurants at steep discounts. It’s a win-win-win for sustainability, your wallet, and your sense of adventure.
TooGoodToGo’s map interface displays all of the Surprise Bags available near you. You can filter by day that the bag is available (today or tomorrow), then make your reservation and pay in the app.
Each bag comes with a guaranteed minimum retail value that you will see displayed on the restaurant’s page, typically three times the price you’re being charged. Some restaurants will hit exactly that minimum value and some will blow it out of the water. In most cases, it depends on how much surplus food is left at the end of the day.
The Surprise Bags we’ve purchased for $3.99 to $5.99 have ranged from $12 worth of croissants to $90 worth of burritos, sandwiches, and drink mixes. On one occasion, we were given a three course meal with several packaged grocery items. On another, we were given an entire cake.
The adventure is in the not knowing, and in the feeling you get from doing a good deed for the environment. Check out Too Good To Go here.
